Harvey Sid Fisher has a song for every astrological sign. They’re not only somewhat true, but they’re fucking hilarious.
Although I feel the Virgo one is way too bland. Contrary to popular belief, we can be edgy— we just have to the edgiest. But that’s the whole principle behind being a virgo, isn’t it? The rest of the lyrics are here.
“I’ll think so hard I will not see the forest for the trees, virgoooo!”

If I wasn’t moving before… It is so on now.
Denver was actually one of the cities on the shortlist, just below Boston. Maybe it’s worth another look…
That fact is fucking impossible.
Why?
I fucking live here and I sure as hell make up for some of those Baptists.
Hahahahahahaha! I sure love to hate you sometimes, J-Ville.
At least it’s not the gonorrhea capital of the world anymore.

You know you’re a gender studies geek when you have to add the word “heteronormative” to your Microsoft Word dictionary.
WHY
on earth did I sell my copy of Female Chauvinist Pigs at the Strand last year?
Oh yeah, because I was broke and sold half of my feminist library to buy food. D’oh!
I’m writing one of my finals on compulsory heterosexuality, and what female sexuality would look like without the influence of the hetero male gaze.
So, friends, I’m wondering— what do you think a feminist sexuality looks like? And when I say feminist sexuality, I mean a neutral one in which no behavior is attributed to male or female, and which neither is expected to dominate over the other? Can we express our sexualities without oppressive behaviors?

Consent implies nothing more than agreement to undergo. Nothing more than ‘yes’. One consents to undergo operations to save one’s life, or to reduce unbearable physical suffering. One signs the consent form without desiring to experience the pain and danger that operations necessarily entail. One does not sign a form proclaiming that one enjoys an operation.
Ugandan MPs have voted to outlaw female genital mutilation - also known as female circumcision.
Anyone convicted of the practice, which involves cutting off a girl’s clitoris, will face 10 years in jail, or a life sentence if a victim dies.
America is filled today with feminist women—who are defiant against their husbands, demanding, self-righteous, and willing to file for divorce. Oh the shame and misery which the sin of feminism has brought upon America’s families! Everywhere we go nowadays, we are bombarded with domestic abuse propaganda, but never a word is said about rebellious wives or careless mothers. Instead of women being homemakers, dressing modestly (1st Timothy 2:9), obeying their husbands (Ephesians 5:24), and behaving themselves as the Bible commands; they have allowed feminist ideologies to brainwash them into becoming independent, immodest, and irresponsible.
Dale Bozzio of the Missing Persons: Lady GaGa before Lady GaGa was even born.

How’s that for a pop singing Italian Stallion?
By the end of the study, more than half of the parents reported that they had not discussed 14 of the 24 sex-related topics by the time their adolescents had begun genital touching or oral sex with partners. Forty-two percent of girls reported that they had not discussed the effectiveness of birth control and 40% admitted they had not talked with their parents about how to refuse sex before engaging in genital touching. Nearly 70% of boys said they had not discussed how to use a condom or other birth-control methods with their parents before having intercourse. Yet only half of the boys’ parents, by contrast, said they had not discussed condom use or birth control with their sons.
Um. DUH.
“This woman was wearing a ankle-length corduroy skirt, which, as we all know, is a fashion nono. So, in order to make her feel uncomfortable, I stood next to her and held a sign that said Corduroy skirts are a sin! I don’t think I have ever drawn so much attention in my life. SO many people asked to take a picture with me, I got laughs, high fives and there were the few that even cursed off the woman standing behind me.”

I wonder if Judith Butler would agree.
But what does it mean to embrace vulnerability, when you’re already vulnerable in society? When your body was born without borders like “personal space,” or protected by the law? When your body is already being violated in various ways (i.e. physical/mental/sexual/institutional/ontological violence)?
The “Montreal Massacre” risks becoming the Earth Day of social issues — another meaningless, annual exercise in petty concern and awareness. For one day each year, we all wear a white ribbon and declare our individual commitment to combating violence against women, whole on all others we rationalize our non-intervention in domestic assault and lay blame squarely on the victims. Twenty-years of somber commemoration has been counter-productive. What we genuinely need is sober thought.
